APPLE INC IS A LIAR

You have heard me incessantly rave and laud Apple’s privacy and security policies. So, I feel that is only fair you are aware of their share of scandals and practices. Believe it or not, Apple has had several privacy scandals over the years. Some are so jarring that you may want to toss your phone into the bin right now.

How does “Hey Siri” spring into action whenever you use the phrase if your mic is not active all the time and continues listening and analyzing what you say? This actually happens and was proven and brought to light when Siri was found to record people’s intimate moments and voices at night.

If you have watched Tim Cook's US Congressional hearing, you may know that Apple was slammed for pushing the course of things always their way. They manipulated and always asserted their market dominance by forcing users and developers to use their payment and development platforms. Apple is also very anti-competition and often uses its hegemony in the tech world to buy, silence, or coerce the big and small competition alike. As witnessed in the hearing, users and developers have complained regarding Apple's strict ways of implementation which it justifies as "for the sake of user's data and privacy". But honestly, they just want to be at the top of everything and dominate every sphere of business they venture into.

How does predictive text work in all smartphones if it does not constantly read what we write and learn from our past texts to suggest changes? Why does it force you to have location enabled to use the weather app even once when you just intend to take a quick glance? If the yellow light does not appear all the time but “Hey Siri” still works, how can we be certain that it is an effective method of reporting mic usage? What’s stopping Apple from hiding its own activity while highlighting others’?

We cannot also possibly forget about the new photo and message scanning tools that Apple is looking to implement. They may be doing it in good faith and preventing child pornography but it essentially goes against the core principle of Apple's privacy policy. There used to be times when Apple would not hand over the data of a terrorist to the FBI because he also happens to be protected by Apple's privacy policies. But now, it seems as if Apple is becoming a lot more like Google in its approach and are willing to constantly report users to law enforcement agencies.

What we essentially get out of such practices is nothing. Trying to pinpoint and find a few offenders should not be done at the cost of a billion other devices. Moreover, if a picture breaches a certain threshold of the algorithm and identifies as pornographic content, Apple will actually review the picture/video itself without informing you first. This makes me so nervous about using iCloud to back up my data. Privacy was the biggest reason I had for considering iPhones. Now, that seems to be fading away and becoming less relevant by the day.

In Google and iCloud photos, automatically create albums, and stories and sort photos of the same person together. Although I do concede that Apple is safer and more secure than Android, we have no way to validate whether they are just for show or if they actually work. Apple has introduced prevention of App tracking but Apple itself does not mention its advertising tracking service there. That is buried under a different sub-section. By default, Siri also has access to a lot of data from different apps and the ability to directly access them.
Apple always shields and lauds itself for its environmental steps but that's just to get the load off their backs and slam it onto other people. It is obviously motivated by increased profit and revenue margins. Even if we consider for a moment that what Apple said about carbon reduction by removing chargers from the box was true, you've got to check the video by MRWHOSETHEBOSS where he actually debunks this notion of carbon reduction very well. You should definitely check it out.

If they actually cared about the environment, perhaps they could start by shipping the iPhone with a charger and USB-C port. It would streamline everything like never before and would be hailed and applauded by people and governments as one of their greatest moves by them. It would do away with cables and you will need to carry a single charger. Faster ProRes file transfers would be a delight for content creators. Compatibility would take a major leap too.

Apple has also been accused of marginalizing and coercing small businesses and app developers to adhere to their policies and mode of payment. Even Apple CEO Tim Cook appeared in front of Congress to testify and express clarification.

Just because it is the best doesn’t mean they don’t have any blood on their hands. They need to be held accountable for their monopoly-protecting practices and extreme power over users’ data and information.
