That’s where the market is. Let’s put it this way. Someone has to bridge the gap and serve the majority of the consumer base because few can spend upwards of 50,000 Rs on a new phone keeping in mind the rising costs of education, food, housing and opportunities. Especially in India, where the customer is very well-educated about what every company offers and tables the best value for money.

The value and cost-sensitive Indian out in the market to buy a phone generally has less than 15,000 Rs. This is the sweet and bitter part of the market which is flocked by Chinese companies who have capitalized on India’s insatiable huge domestic market. Because if you make it big in India’s domestic market, you don’t need to move anywhere.
There is huge growth potential in India and India is the only country that is not experiencing any kind of market saturation. America is often dubbed the “Land of opportunities”, but India is the biggest market today to venture into and also the easiest because of the government grants. India is the next USA, China and Europe combined.

Apple has always been a luxury commodity of India’s booming upper class and entrepreneurs who have made it big early on in life. It is not that Samsung doesn't sell 150,000 Rs phones but it is just that it also sells 6000 Rs phones.

Put it this way - There are BMWs worth 4cr but it does not have the image of a 4cr car. It is generally considered in the range of 50 lakhs to 2cr. Say 4cr, and people conjure images of Bentleys and Rolls Royce's of the world.
Apple also does not venture into this market because it requires compromises to quality and standards which Apple will never stoop to the level of, even if it means a diminishing market share.

FUN FACT: Samsung initially sold noodles and other products. It wasn’t until 1970 that Samsung sold its first electrical product.
