They make you jump, they make your blood rush, they make you pin back into your seats, and they can even power your home now. Electric cars certainly have a very bright future and one which is not going to wane into the wilderness anytime soon. Even POTUS seems sold on the idea and recently drove a 1000-horsepower Hummer. Governments all around the world are pushing for EV mandates, something which was discussed profoundly at the COP26.

Even though the manufacturing process of EVs isn’t carbon-neutral yet, it is heading in a direction never before witnessed by mankind. EVs emit 20-30 % less carbon overall according to a leading newspaper. Unlike combustible engine cars, EVs are exciting and hotly debated. New EVs are coming out every day with technologies, features and conveniences our parents could have only dreamt of. New start-ups such as Rivian and Rimac are advancing the game to the next tier. Record lap and acceleration times are the norm with EVs. A 100,000$ Tesla can put several quarter million Ferraris and Lambos to the grave.
In the USA, a truck-maniac country, legacy brands like Ford and GM are betting on the EV gold rush. Ford got the F-150 lightning which portrayed and manifested that the word “electric” and “truck” can be said together without unstoppable chuckling and despising. The Tesla CyberTruck (God knows when people will actually get it) claims the credit of first introducing the idea to US’s sensitive truck customers. Rivian and Hummer are also pulling up their socks and doing everything from brand endorsements to giving inconceivable discounts on top of generous Government grants in the US.

Ford with the F-150 Lightning has brought the experience of a traditional truck and also a modern Tesla, making it an attractive proposition if you can swallow the mean 60,000$ price tag. Companies such as Tesla which have the best charging infrastructure in the States and China lead the pack. A better-connected experience and convenience factor give them the upper hand over the competition.

Rivian also has a few party tricks up its sleeves such as several storage spaces, high-end speakers and even an optional stove kitchen that stays tucked away in a compartment until you are camping with your family on alluring red Californian peaks.
As for India, the market is dominated by Tata and there are few players in the market. In the luxury space, Audi has the most EVs by which it hopes to renunciate its image after it was tarnished in the VW scandal. The Indian market is nascent and slow to adapt to consequential changes. It will take a considerable number of benefits over traditional cars to convince the value-conscious Indian customer which is one of the largest markets on the planet. States like Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh have set ambitious targets of selling only EVs by 2030.

EVs are not only advantageous for customers but also for business. The unstoppable rise in popularity of EVs has given birth to a slew of start-ups looking to set up charging stations in the country. Something that has huge growth potential and is receiving huge aid from the EV-pro Government.
The price of EVs is set to taper in a few years as the most expensive component i.e. the battery, is being developed at lower costs than ever. I am personally rooting for the success of EVs which can only be achieved by rock-hard policies, Government support and insatiable consumer demand.
With the promise of constantly improving efficiency and range, EVs are here to stay. Ex(xon) giants certainly have no choice but to bite nails in fright.
