WIX: A GAMECHANGER

If you started reading my blogs after June 2022, you would not know this but I created this tech blog website using Wix. For almost 6 months since the website's inception, I used a free Wix domain and only bought my domain sometime back when I felt that it would help people navigate through my blogs faster and easily. It would allow them to put in a search on any web browser in the world and the website would pop up at the top. This would allow readers to access the blog site whenever they wanted just by typing the keyword rather than depending on the link in the post's inbox. Wix has completely changed my life so now, I wish to review it and tell you what it feels like to use it. Maybe, one day, I can be reading one of your guys' blogs.

It was just pure instinct that made me choose. When I decided to build a website, I knew I had to use some website builders because I did not how to code myself and do web development. I knew of only 2 big names at the time - Wix and Square Space. I registered myself on both platforms but was having a hard time deciding which one I should use to build my website. I had watched ads of both platforms on YouTube but had no idea whatsoever which one would turn out a better version to work on and deal with. I could have honestly gone either way and would not have noticed otherwise but I chose Wix for reasons I can't put my finger on.

The process to build DTT was fairly quick and easy. I was able to get the site up and running in about 30-45 minutes. That's very good by industry standards. At no point in time did I feel that I was getting confused and did not know what to do. Wix was helpful all along the way and made it easy for me. You can see the thought that they had put in. A first-time website maker could create something he would have never imagined. There's a wide enough range of preferences to match your style and needs. It even gives you the option to just set your preferences for all categories and then it creates a whole website based on those. It is mind-boggling. I did want a bit of personalization and customization so I took the effort to design a professional-looking logo using Wix's logo maker. It was also easy to configure the site settings using Wix. Security is top-notch and I have never faced any hacking or phishing attempts on my website.

Wix is equally good at scheduling and managing blogs. The UI is easy to navigate through and is minimalistic in its appearance. There are then the usual bits of text size change, bold, underline, style, and alignment. One thing that I like is automation. It makes my life easier. I am rarely home when the blog goes live (on Saturday and Wednesday at 10 AM IST) but automation ensures that each one of you gets the mail notification when the new blog goes up and live. You can also set up automation for a whole host of other tasks and you begin to appreciate the vast impact they can have on your reach. It would also suggest me templates and taught me how to better design and structure my blogs which was of great help to a first-timer like me.

Wix analytics is even better than Google Analytics. It can compile all the data so well and present it understandably. You can search for hundreds of categories that you did know existed and it makes my work much more streamlined. You can know your strengths and weaknesses and receive expert recommendations and guidance. I can’t appreciate the statistics enough and what a vital role they play to help me grow my blog and reach more and more people. It also tells you how you are faring against websites of similar genres which gives you a real-world understanding of your positioning and progress.

But like every piece of tech, Wix isn’t perfect and could do better by being more polished. It seems that it is always not able to handle the server pressure. There have been a few instances in the past when my site went down for a minute or two because of high traffic and users were not able to access any content. This is not a good user experience practice and sways away potential readers and users. The same kind of issue persists in other areas as well. It often runs into technical issues while I type my blog and manage settings and configurations. This leads to disconnections and has often led to losing all of the written blog prompting me to start over from NIL. The in-house app services are kind of useless as well. There are a lot of other apps on the web providing similar but better quality services that people like me prefer.

Wix also has the unique ability to tailor websites specifically for the purpose you want. It creates different iterations for a blog, a business, an NGO and so on - this is great on so many levels. Wix also helps to monetize the site, create chatboxes and develop an interactive an online community. I have created a few other websites using Wix for some of the non-profit organizations I work for and the result has been spectacular. Now that I know a bit of coding and web development, Wix also gives you the option to code professionally which is well-appreciated by pro web developers.

All in all, Wix is an amazing free resource for all. It is great if you are just getting started and want to be able to build a website for whatever your purpose might be. I am sure you would find something that works out for you in Wix. If you are a professional, there’s also the option of pro customization, techniques, and designing but a lot of that is paid. One of the best parts is that it also helped me make my blog available on a mobile application called Spaces by Wix. Although it is not the most ideal, it does more than enough and works very well for something that is completely free.
